Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation!

a pictue of estee lauder double wear foundation

I did a haul post not long ago on a few things I brought on a little shopping trip I went on with my mu to Cheshire Oaks. I decided to do a little review on this in particular, not just because it was requested I do so but because I have fell in love with it.

This is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, and it is a matte finish long wearing foundation. I have been seeing alot of peope say they use this and I was really interested in trying it out and I'm so happy I did. I am not usually one for matte foundations as I have very dry skin however the finish of this foundation is so beautiful. It is really comfortable on the skin and I love that it is a matte finish but not drying at all. It applys very evenly with any tool I have used for example my Beauty Blender, Real Techniques Expert Face Brush or a flat paddle foundation brush. I would say this is a medium to full  coverage foundation. You could easily mix this with a moisturiser to sheer it out and also build it up to a full coverage without it looking cakey on the skin.

Hence the name 'Double Wear', this is a very long wearing foundation I find it sits very well without moving all day and its perfect for nights out as it does not budge. I personally don't have to set this with a finishig powder however I have a couple of times and it does not effect the finish of the foundation. My cream and powder products blend very well over the top and also last very well all day and night. You can apply a luminising product with this if you did want a more dewy effect but with the long lasting finish.

I dont find I have to touch up my makeup at all when I use this foundation. It has such a beautiful finish and even though it is matte, I thinks its suitable for any skin types. A little goes a very long way with this product, and it creates such a flawless finish. The only thing I would improve is adding a pump applicator but, that is all. I have used this in alot of my makeup posts lately and I will leave the links to them below for you to read.

I then lined the top lash line with the Maybelline gel eyeliner ending in a large wind. I mixed the black shadow and bronzer and applied this along the lower lash line. Date Night Makeup Look!

I love neat and simple makeup looks for night lately, and winged liner is always my go to. It is the perfect makeup look to do if you are in a rush or not confident with eye shadows but still want the eyes to pop. It can give the eyes more definition and exaggerate or change the shape of the eyes and once you have mastered it you have it for life. I'm thinking of doing a post on how to create winged liner if you think that would be a good post idea please let me know. This look is so flattering and pretty I think its a perfect look for date night.

Face:
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
Rimmel Clear Complexion Power in Translucent

I applied the foundation all over the face using a beauty blender then concealed the under eyes. I set the under eyes only with the translucent powder to keep it in place. I then contoured a little with bronzer and used the blusher on the apples of the cheeks only to make them look a little more rounded. I finished my applying the highlighter to the tops of the cheeks, forehead and brow bone.

Eyes:
Benefit Brow Zings
Benefit Gimme Brow
Maybelline Gel Liner
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara

I started by filling in my eyebrows with the powder then setting them. I then lined the top lash line creating a large wing at the end. I applied The falsies mascara to the top lashes and Roller Lash to the bottom.

5 Benefits Of Using Cream Products!

Cream products are becoming so popular now and can be used for almost anything. For any powder product that can be used on the face weather its contouring, blusher, eye shadow, bronzer or eyebrow product,
there is a cream version out there. I personally love to use cream products as much as I can however I find some people tend to stay clear. They aren't as tricky or as messy as you may think and in most cases I find they help me out quite a lot. I thought I would share a few benefits of using cream products to maybe encourage more people to use them, and if you have any to add please share below.

1. Easy to blend and control - Cream products are really easy to blend if you are not that confident and also easier to erase if you get it wrong. They are easy to control with more tricky work such as the eyebrows as they glide on nicely.

2. They help you get the most out of eye shadow colours - Using a cream base first before shadows can enhance the colour of the shadow immensely. If you are doing a dark smokey eye use a dark cream base to get the most out of the darker shades making it look more sultry. If you are using lighter colours, use a light cream base to make the shadow brighter and really pop.

2. Look most natural - I find using cream products for your base looks most natural. Using cream blushers and bronzers can be less harsh and are perfect for summer time, if you are just starting out wearing makeup and for school.

3. Great base for powders - You don't just have to use creams on their own, they can create a great base for powders so they don't move around or crease, this is especially the case for eye shadows.

4. You can build up onto them - If you want to create a strong contour and highlight, using creams to create it first and then building it up over the top with powders, will make your look much much stronger than if you were to just use a powder. I have a Highlighting and Contouring post here.

5. They can pro-long the wear of your makeup. weather its for your brows, eyes or cheeks, using a cream as a base for anything will make your makeup last a whole lot longer.

Spring Hair and Makeup!

It is slowly turning into Spring in the UK and for me it can not come fast enough, I think the sun puts you in such a better mood and I personally feel a lot more motivated with good weather. I was sorting my makeup out over the weekend and decided to do something a little more bright and playful for an every day look, and this is what I used.

Face:
L'Oreal True Match Foundation
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer
Chanel Soliel Tan De Chanel Bronzer

I started my doing my foundation and concealer, I chose not to set it with anything however you can use a powder if you like. I liked the dewy effect for a spring time look. I finished my applying the cream bronzer over the cheeks and forehead and anywhere else the sun may would naturally hit it. This created a really natural bronzy sun kissed look to the skin.

Eyes:
L'Oreal Infaillible Eyeliner Pencil in Chocolate Addiction
Benefit Brow Zings
Benefit They're Real Mascara

I Filled in my eyebrows with the brow powder keeping to the natural shape just making them a little darker. I then lined the top lash line. I chose a brown pencil as I thought it would be less harsh for a spring time look. I didn't take the liner into a wing at the end as I find on me personally if I do this is makes my eyes look more rounded which I like. I finished my curling my lashes and applying mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

Lips:
Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid in Surrender

I applied one coat and let it dry then another over the top to finish. These are so matte and once they are on they will not move. I love this shade for spring time.
Hair:
I Created a small French braid using the front bits of my hair and plaited it to the end. I then put all my hair up in a messy pony tail. I pulled out the bobble to the plait once my pony tail was secure, then gently pulled out the French plait to make it look more messy and loose.

New Beauty Treats!

The past week or so I have been on a couple of shopping trips. To be honest I have not needed anything in particular but on the other hand I find it impossible not to buy anything and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I have been really pleased with them all as I have made myself buy new things I have never tried before. So I thought I would share my new bits im trying, and if you have tried any of these before let me no.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre - Something that had been on my wish list for some time now, and as I was having trouble with my skin I thought it was time. I have used it a few times now and it is a lovely moisturiser, my latest post was a first thoughts if you would like to read that click here

Mac Pro Longwear Concealer - This is the one product I already have however the shade I own is a little light for me so I chose a more suitable one. Im loving this for my under eye concealer and also to prime my eyes for eye shadow.

MAC Soar Lip Liner- I've been waiting to get my hands on this for ages now however the fuss about it has died down a little. Its a really pretty nude shade which I think I will get my wear out of and I cant wait to try.

Estee lauder Double Wear Foundation - I have heard so many good things about this foundation and was looking for something a little more matte and full coverage so I treated myself to this.

Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum In Oil - I have been looking into facial oils ever since someone left me a lovely comment about using a facial oil in a post I did about makeup for dry skin (you can read that here). This one kept popping up and the lovely lady in the shop really sold it to me. I tried it for the first time last night and was very pleased.

Body Shop Stawberry Hand Cream - This was actually a free gift but it smells good enough to eat and it feels lovely too. I like the size and it will be going straight into my bag.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre!

I have been wanting to try this product for some time now, as I have been having trouble with my skin lately I thought now was the perfect time to try something new. I have heard and seen endless amounts of reviews which have all been good so I thought I would give my first thoughts. I have only been using this for just under a week now, so I cant give a detailed review however I have noticed a difference in that short time.

This is the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre. This is a well known product in a makeup artists kit, as it can be used as a moisturiser, primer and a makeup remover. Its a lovely moisturiser which helps keep the skins moisture keeping it plum and really smooth. This keeps my skin really hydrated all day and all my dry/eczema prone areas have completely gone. It is a milk style texture which creates a satin film over the skin, which for me is like an invisible barrier against the weather at the moment. It sits beautifully under makeup and it lasts all day long without it becoming dry throughout the day.

This can be used on all skin types and it has all the nourishing properties which I would find in a thick moisturising cream but with a weightless feel on the skin so its perfect for priming. I have noticed a different in my skin already, its really soft and not tight at all. I'm really pleased with this, and it will be a staple in my kit from now on too. I love that its multi purpose and great quality too. Plus it can be used as an after shave lotion and a face mask as a little pick me up.

False Tanning Tips!

False tanning is one of the safest and easy ways to get a nice healthy glow to your skin, and especially over winter when there is no sun it is certainly a quick fix. I quite often use self tan as I am naturally pretty pale I like to be a little darker sometimes especially on a night out or occasion. So I thought I would share a few tips on how to get the most out of false tanning and how to maintain it.

1. Always exfoliate first. This is really important to do as it removes any dead or flaky skin to insure the false tan applies smoothly and evenly.

2. Moisturise first. If you are using a tanning oil, spray or lotion it really helps to moisturise first. It helps to spread it around evenly when you have to rub it in so you don't get any streaks.

3. Concentrate on awkward areas. Make sure you moisturise well in certain areas such as the elbows, knees, wrists, feet etc. This will stop the tan from settling and becoming darker in these areas. on the wrists and feet, it will help to blend it out so it looks really natural and not so that you have an orange ring around them where you have suddenly stopped.

4. Blend well. Whatever kind of self tanner you are using, take the time to really make sure it is well blended and you have reached all the areas.

5. Allow to dry. Read the bottle to check how long it takes to dry. I usually allow around 10 minutes for it all to settle before getting dressed. It would be such a shame to rush and get dressed, and smudge all your hard work.

6. Build up to the colour you want. I Find that self tanning looks so much better when it is built up over a few days. If you are planning a night out start tanning the week before and apply every day or every other day to build up the colour ready for your occasion. This will look soo much better and natural than slapping as much as you can on the night before and hoping for the best, you will probably wake up very streaky. You can get the most out of the colour of the self tan and find you will be darker but without the orangeness from applying so much in one go.

7. Re-apply regularly. If you self tan all year round or just through the winter, try to apply it on a regular basis as you will find you can maintain a consistent colour. Try not to wait for it to all wash off then start over again as it is harder to maintain and you will probably end up wasting more product. For me personally I find that if I just want a nice subtle tan I apply it every 3 to 4 days, then if I am going out I apply every other day.

8. Exfoliate regularly. To maintain your tan and keep it looking stop on its really important to keep exfoliating. I try to exfoliate on the days where I re-apply my tan and this helps stop it from looking blotchy, and so you are not applying it over dead skin which will end up rubbing off anyway.

9. Keep moisturising. This together with regular exfoliation will help maintain your tan. Sometimes self tanner can be drying on the skin our maybe you have naturally dry skin, moisturising will help stop the tan being worn off so quickly and make it last a lot longer. When your skin starts to get dry over a couple of days the tan may start to get patchy on areas it has started to wear off.

10. Experiment and find the best type of self tanner for you. There are so many false tanners to suit everyones needs, to different shades, skin types and they come in all sorts of application methods. So be sure to try different ones which you find most easy to use.

Hollister Body Mist!

A picture of the hollister solana beach body mist

I don't usually talk about perfumes on here as its really hard to describe what something smells like. Particularly a perfume as the scent will be different on different people. Lately I have been using a lot of body sprays instead of perfume as I had so many different ones at Christmas and I thought I would share these as I think they would be something a lot of you may like.

This is the Hollitser Body Mist, there are three different scents and I have this one which it Solana Beach and one more which is Crescent Bay (my favourite). I really love these as they smell so fruity and fruit scents have to be my favourite. They are really refreshing but not as strong as a perfume would smell. They give a lovely subtle fresh scent which lasts a really long time, they really remind me of holidays.

I love body sprays and these are really handy to keep in your car or gym bag or on your dressing table, and they are perfect now we are coming into spring and summer. They are a nice way to refresh without soaking yourself in an overpowering perfume. I get a lot of complements when I wear these and I don't think there are many who wouldn't like them, Plus they last such a long time!

Makeup For My Super Dry Skin!

I naturally have dry skin which does come with both pros and cons. On the downside it comes with irritated and eczema prone skin which is super sensitive. However on the upside I find I don't have problems with my makeup not lasting all day and night! I find I manage my skin pretty well to be honest however the past couple of weeks, I think because of the weather it has become super dry! I'm finding that makeup is not only not sitting well at all but is also feeling quite dry and irritating and settling in every little nook and cranny. Not an attractive look at all.

Over the weekend I have been experimenting with my different products to find what feels most comfortable and I have found a group that I'm pleased with and will be sticking to while my skin sorts itself out. I think I can wear this for day and night time and my skin looks so much better using this combination of products.

Please bare with me on the pictures, I have moved into a my new makeup room over the weekend and have yet to set up my camera etc so I have had to use my phone for pictures today.

Face: I started by using the MAC studio sculpt Foundation. I have really fell in love with this foundation, it really suits my skin type and keeps my skin hydrated and doesn't move all day. For concealer I first used a little Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer just in the very inner corners to cover the darkness, I really like this as lasts really well, and for the under eyes I used the MAC Mineralize Concealer. This is really comfortable and moisturising for my under eyes when they are a little irritated and dry.

Due to being super dry I didn't dare use any powder at all especially not to set anything, I wanted to keep everything feeling hydrated, and I know that nothing will move about if I don't set it anyway. I then used the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel cream bronzer, and just dabbed this over the cheeks and forehead to bronze the face not contour. I then used a cream blusher by Revlon in the shade Pinched over the cheeks for a subtle wash of colour. To complete the base I used the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. I don't know why I don't use this more often, it gives the most beautiful glow to the skin, makes you look really dewy and hydrated. I applied this to the tops of the cheekbones, down the nose and centre of the forehead.

Eyes: Eyebrows I filled in as normal. I then kept it really simple for the eyes, I created a nice wing with my Maybelline gel liner, which I actually find really comfy to wear. I haven't used any eye shadow as I didn't want to use any powders so I thought just winged liner was still an effective eye look with not using eye shadow. I then applied mascara to top and bottom eyelashes, Maybelline the falsies for top and Benefit Roller Lash for bottom. I didn't use any product on the bottom of my under eyes as I think it can make them look worse sometimes when they are dry and crepey.

Lips:  I first applied some lip balm then used Tanya Burr Lip gloss in afternoon tea. I wanted to keep to the glowy look so I chose a lip gloss because I find this is sitting a lot better on my lips then a lipstick at the moment as they can be quite drying.

So that is the makeup I have been wearing for my dry skin, It feels a lot more comfortable and it still lasts really well. If you have any advise on skin care or makeup products for dry skin then please share them below.

My Chocolate Flapjack Cake!

I love baking, especially if it involves chocolate, the other day I baked flapjacks for the first time and they were so yummy! I have spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen today also so I thought I would share with you what I have made. This is my really easy chocolate flapjack cake recipe:

100g Chocolate (any that you like)
Round Cake Tin

1. Preheat the oven to 190oC.

2. Place the butter, sugar and golden syrup into a pan and melt on a low heat.

3. Once melted take off the heat and fold in the porridge oats.

4. Pour into your greased tin and flatten with the back of a spoon.

5. Bake in the oven for around 10 -15 minutes until golden brown.

6. Take out and cool for around 10 minutes.

February Favourites!

A picture of favourite beauty products

Its time for my February Favourites post! It is my second favourites post and this time they are all makeup products bar one. I do have a couple of TV shows to include too but I couldn't take a picture of them so I will leave those until the end. I have also done reviews on most of these product to as I have loved them so much so I will leave a link to a more in depth review in the titles.

L'Oreal Le Blush in Sandalwood Pink is my favourite blusher of life at the moment, and its also my most recent little review. I really like the pigmentation, the size of the blusher and how blendable it is on the skin. The shade is perfect for me and it complements any makeup look.

Benefit Roller Lash I have the mini roller lash mascara that was free in the Elle Magazine as I wanted to try it before buying it. I absolutely love this for my bottom lashes! it separates them and makes them look longer and because of the shape of the wand you can get to all the tiny lashes you would normally miss. Is does not transfer onto the skin either and stays put all dat, its my favourite bottom lash mascara.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle this is such a beautiful highlighter which suits anyone. It is the perfect in-between of warm and cool I can wear this in winter and summer. I like that it is not glittery its just a really nice glow and you can use it more subtly or apply more for stronger makeup looks.
its gives such a nice glow to the skin.

MAC Prep and Prime Highlighter in Light Boost it look me a while to get used to using this product but I really like it now. I have been using it for night time looks when I want to do more contouring and highlighting. I use this over my concealer where I want to highlight and the yellow tones really help to brighten the area. It is quite full coverage too so you don't always need to use a concealer with it. Its really effective and has helped my highlighting look a little stronger.

Fullips Lip Enhancer has to be the most perfect little gadgets for plumping your lips. I have done quite a big review on this, but I really love it and its really effective. The results last for around 3 hours and they are really fun to mess about with. There are 3 different shapes for different lips and effects, and I love how my lips look when I've used this lip plumper.

Revenge and The 100 are two of my favourite programs at the moment. I have watched them both from the very beginning and got hooked however I the past few episodes have been amazing. I love their story lines and all the twists and turns I am glued to the TV when they are on!

So they are my February Favourites, not as many this time but I really love them all. What are you favourites from February?

Weekend Glam!

This weekend I am finally back into my blog routine again and I finally had time to do a makeup post for you. These are my favourite posts to do for you, as a makeup artist I am wanting to practice all the time and doing makeup on myself really helps me, and this is what I like to share with you.

Face:
L'Oreal True Match Foundation
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
MAC Prep and Prime in Light Boost
No7 Translucent Powder
Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
L'Oreal Blusher in Sandalwood Pink
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle

I used more products then usual on my face today, as it is more of a going out look and I wanted more highlight and contour. I started by applying foundation all over the face then concealed my under eyes and eyelids with the pro longwear concealer. I then used the prep and prime highlighter in areas I wanted to highlight therefore, the under eye area, centre of the forehead, down the nose and chin. I then blended this out but keeping it in the areas I put it.

I then used the cream bronzer to contour the hollows of the cheeks, top of the forehead and jaw line. Again blending it out put keeping it in those specific areas. I then set the T-zone with translucent powder as I don't usually need to set having dry skin.

to finish I applied bronzer over the areas I applied the contour to emphasize it the applied blusher to the cheeks and the highlighter on the tops of the cheeks and nose to finish.

Eyes:
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Pencil
Benefit Gimme Brow
No7 Eye Shadow in True Gold
Illamasqua Multi Facet Palette in Aura
Maybelline Black Gel Liner
MAC Teddy Eye Pencil
Ardell Demi Wispies False Lashes
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

I started with the brows filling them in with the pencil then setting them with the gimme brow. By applying the concealer when doing the base earlier to the eyelids it creates the perfect base for eye shadows. I started by placing a bit of tape to either side of the eyes to make sure I created perfect lines. I then applied the gold eye shadow all over the eye lid. Secondly I used the gel liner to create a strong line and long wing. I then used the brown eye shadow out of the palette to the crease and blended out. To finish eye the eye shadow I applied the black shade in the crease only in the outer corner to add definition. I then applied the Maybelline mascara and false lashes.

For the bottom lash line I used the gold eye shadow in the tear duct and the inner third of the lower lash line. I then used the black shadow from the outer part meeting up to the gold, then blended it all together with the same brown used earlier. I used the teddy pencil in the water line and roller lash mascara for the lower lash line. I then took off the tape and I had perfectly neat lines.

Lips:
Bare Minerals Lip Pencil in Thrilled
Urban Decay Lipstick in Liar
No7 Translucent Powder
MAC Lipstick in Fleur De Coral

I lined the lips and filled the uter corners in with the pencil then applied the UD lipstick all over. To make this matte I applied the translucent powder over the top. To finish I applied the MAC lipstick to the centre of the top and bottom of the lips to make them look a little fuller.

So that is my weekend glam, let me know what you think, I hope you like is.
