Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Kit!

If you follow my blog you will know that on Friday I had a little shopping spree, if your interested in what I brought I will leave a link to that here. One of my favourite purchases was this brush kit which I picked up from Boots. Even though I have had this less than a week I have used it non stop, they have been my go to makeup brushes for my recent makeup looks.

This is the Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Kit. It comes with four beautiful makeup brushes and also this really handy case which you can also make into a stand. From left to right the brushes included are:

Contour brush: Possibly my favourite and most versatile of all of them this contour brush is perfectly shaped to sculpt the cheekbones and blend product into precise areas. Because of its smaller size I also like to use this to apply my blusher and highlight. It blends the product really evenly and works great with liquids, creams or powders.

Pointed Foundation Brush: This is a great foundation brush for building up coverage I like that its smaller size and the pointed shape makes it really easy to get into all areas of the face. I like to also use this to apply my concealer for highlighting as I can really build it up and be very precise with it.

Detailer Brush: This is such a handy brush to have with your bag. Its perfect for pin point concealing, or to use as I lip brush. I also like to use this for helping with the detail of eye makeup weather it is for using pigments or precisely applying eye shadows.

Buffing Brush: A lovely brush for applying your base, you can sheer out product or build up for a more full coverage, it also blends products really easy and is a staple for anyone's makeup bag.

I absolutely love this brush kit, each brush works lovely with products and work so well with liquids, creams or powders. They are really easy to clean and they can all be used for multiple things too. Not only are these great for more precise makeup application, they are also great for beginners who are new to makeup as the shape of the brushes really help you out. The case is really handy also to keep them protected and to travel with. What are your favourite makeup brushes?

Hey everyone I have decided to do a prom series, where once or twice a week I will share different makeup looks perfect for your proms! Hope you find them helpful and gain a little inspiration, I am going to kick it off with a purple smokey eye.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer
Urban Decay Concealer Pencil in M16
Rimmel Translucent Pressed Powder
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
Illamasqua Blusher in Lover
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle

I started off by applying my foundation all over the face with a beauty blender sponge. I then used the concealer pencil to draw my contour and blended it out with a fluffy brush. I used the concealer to conceal the highlight and conceal the under eyes, forehead, chin and nose. I set the under eyes and t-zone with the pressed powder. I used the bronzer over the contour and a little over the cheeks to warm it up, then blusher to the apples of the cheeks. To finish I applied highlighter to the tops of the cheekbones nose and centre of he forehead.

Eyes:
Illamasqua Eyebrow Cake in Thunder
Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel in Brunette
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
NYX Eye shadows - light pink and dark purple in shade
L'Oreal Exaggerate Eye Definer in Perfect Plum
Maybelline Black Gel Liner
MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy
Benefit They're Real Mascara
Ardell Demi Wispies False Lashes

I started by using the brow powder through my brows and set them with the brow gel. For the eyes I Used the bronzer in the crease and blended it out to use a transition shade. I then used the dark purple eye shadow and applied it to the inner and outer corners of the eyes and blended it out, I then applied the light pink shade to the centre, this created an ombre effect and made the eyes pop. I then applied the purple eye liner to the lower lash line then blended with the dark purple shadow. I used a fluffy brush to smoke it all out and make sure there was no harsh lines. I used the MAC teddy pencil in the water line and the gel liner to line the top lash line. To finish I used the benefit mascara to the top and bottom lashes and applied my Ardell false lashes.

Lips:
L'Oreal Collection Privee in Julianne's Nude
Rimmel Brow Pencil in Hazel

I applied the lipstick all over and the pencil in the outer corners of the lips to create a subtle ombre effect.

I hope you like my first prom makeup look!

Weekend Beauty Haul!

Hey everyone and welcome back, again there was no Friday post this week as it has been really hectic. Today I have been shopping to get some last minute things for an event next week and I got carried away with the makeup as usual. I thought I would share my beauty haul with you and show you what I got.
A picture of claring makeup and skincare
A picture of Fake Bake an No7 self tanning products
Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Kit

First off I went into Clarins in Debenhams and purchased the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 02. I really like these for a summer time lip gloss as they are really glossy and natural but also comfy to wear. I also re-purchased the Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster as I had ran out of mine. With my two purchases I also received the most beautiful bag and got to choose four minis to go with it as a free gift, the ones I chose were, the hand and nail cream, an illuminating blusher, a moisturiser and a cleanser, the gift was so beautiful. The last thing I brought from Debenhams as they were on offer was the Fake Bake Body Polish and Fake Bake Tan Enhancing Lotion, as I am going to an event next week I like to use these to help be get the best out of my tan.

I then headed over to Urban Decay counter and brought the Oil-Control Setting Spray in the small size to put in my pro kit. Then I treated myself to the Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer, I have heard lot of good things about this so I cant weight to try it out. Finally from urban Decay I chose the Concealer Stick in M6 to use as a contouring pencil. It felt really creamy and blendable so im looking forward to using that!

Next I headed to Boots and purchased two bottles of my favourite false tan by No7, again as they were on offer. I picked up the No7 Quick Dry Spray and the No7 Quick Dry Tinted Lotion. I love both of these so I had one of each to share with my mum. I Then purchased the Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Kit, I actually brought to of there was a deal on them so I had one for myself and another for my professional kit. I love the look of these brushes and the case it comes with is so handy, I will probably do a review on these when I have tried them out. The final thing I picked up was this nail Polish from Collection called Work The Colour Nail Polish in Baby Blue as I need to paint my toes for my even next week and this matches my dress.

I hope you like my haul post, I thought I would include a picture of my makeup from today too. I cant wait to use these in my makeup looks shortly. Have a great weekend!

Maybelline the Eye Eraser Concealer
Urban Decay Ultra Definition Loose Finishing Powder
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
Rimmel Natural Bronzing Powder in Sun Bronze
Revlon Highlighting Palette in Rose Glow

I started by applying the foundation all over with a buffing brush and then concealed the under eyes. I didn't chose a concealer which is too light as I wanted it to be more of a bronze look so I didn't want too much highlight. I then set the under eyes with the loose powder. I mixed both of my bronzers together and applied this all over the face where the sun would naturally hit. I finished my applying the highlighting palette to the cheeks, forehead and nose.

Eyes:
illamasqua Eyebrow Cake
illamasqua Eye Shadow in Feint
Maybelline Black Gel Liner
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
Lancôme Eye Pencil in Indigo Paris
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
Ardell Demi Wispies

I started by filling in my eyebrows with the brow powder, then I drew my winged liner which I extended it out quite far. I then mixed my bronzer with the eye shadow and used this in my crease and blended with a fluffy brush. I used the blue eye pencil all along the lash line meeting up with the gel line in the outer corners. I finished my applying Roller Lash mascara to the top and bottom eyelashes then applied my false lashes.

Lips:
Bare Minerals Lip Pencil in Thrilled
Tanya Burr Lip gloss in Afternoon Tea

I lined the lips only with the lip pencil then applied the lip gloss all over.

Hope you like this look, and thank you for reading.

My Favourite Lipsticks!

I never got into higher end makeup products until I started to study makeup and build my kit. I had never even stepped up to a mac counter in my life until a few years ago. This post is definately not suggesting that we should all go and splurge out on high end makeup in fact I am a huge fan of the drugstore. By frequently using so many different makeup products I have become to favourite certain formulations or brands for certain products and right now these are my favourite lipsticks.

I think it would be very hard to find someone who does not have a MAC lipstick in their makeup bag. I wouldnt describe them as super expensive as they last me personally a very long time however I no not everyone can go out every weekend and buy one. I have tried many many lipsticks in the past however I feel quite often they are a waste of time, either they only lasy two minutes before I need to touch up, they are not as pigmented as the look in the pakaging or they are uncomfortable on the lips. I have a few MAC lipsticks now and out of all the different brands in my collection I always tend to pick out these.

They come in different finishes from matte to a more sheen finish lipstick. I find them really long lasting, especially the matte ones I very rarely have to re-apply on a night out. They have very high pigmentation, I love the bright ones as they are so vibrant. I also think they are really comfortable, I do always apply lipbalm before hand too. I much prefer to spend a little more on a product I am more happy with and that I know I will get better use out of.  I think these are a really good quality lipsticks and the colour range is so vast there is a perfect shade for everyone. What are your favourites?

Understanding Colour Correction!

If you haven't noticed already colour correcting is becoming more and more popular at the moment. Colour correcting products are coming out in all different products and formulations and if that's not bad enough, if you don't actually understand what colour correcting is or what it means, how do you know you are buying the wright products? or if you are buying products you don't actually need?

I want to make this post as simple and easy as possible, therefore a very easy way to look and understand colour correcting is by looking at a simple colour wheel. If you look and study your face in the mirror and find you have a the pigmentation or undertone of a certain colour to your skin, you need to use a corrector of the opposite shade in the colour wheel to neutralise it. The most popular colour correctors when it comes to cosmetics are: Green, Yellow, Orange and Purple, so these are the ones I am going to explain to you further.

Green: A green corrector is used to neutralise any redness, therefore if you suffer with red pigmentation which many do on the cheeks and nose area, you could use a green based primer to neutralise this before applying your base. A green based concealer, usually in cream form is very helpful to conceal spots and blemishes by cancelling out the redness first before applying a concealer over the top of it.

Purple: A purple corrector is used to cancel out any yellow undertones to your skin. If you do suffer with a more yellow sallow undertones to your skin using a purple based primer will really brighten and add a lovely glow to your face.

Orange: Orange undertones in a concealer are perfect for those under eye circles. Study your under eyes and if your circle undertones are more blue, a more orange concealer or corrector is for you, You can use a corrector before applying your under eye concealer as it will help to cover and brighten the area more.

Yellow: This is also a perfect corrector to use around the eyes. If you suffer with under eye darkness which is more of a purple undertone, this is perfect for brightening highlighting that area. Its also very useful conceal veins.

It can be very hard to decide or understand what colour correction you need, as it will all depend on your skin tone and also if you have more warm or cool undertones to your skin. However with these basics you can study your face and get an idea of what you may be looking for. I hope this was helpful for some of you!

TRESemme Heat Defence Styling Spray!

When it comes to my hair I am the least fussy person ever, you would be lucky to find more than 3 hair products in my draw. I tend to stay away from hair products as there is nothing worse for me than the feeling of product in my hair, plus I rarely find a product which actually works. For me it is super low maintenance, I shampoo, condition and then I use this.

This is the TRESemme Heat Defence Styling Spray. I have naturally very curly and long hair which meant it can be hard to keep looking shiny and healthy. I have tried endless products for styling curly and straight hair however I find I have to wash it straight away again as I can feel the product in my hair and it irritated my scalp. I first started to use this around 9 years ago... yes 9 years! when I first started to straighten my hair at around 14. I don't know why I have only just decided to show you my love for it, I guess I'm just not a hair person.

It is very important to protect your hair against heated tools you may use on it as it can make your hair become dry and brittle especially at the ends.

This heat protection spray protects you for up to 230oC, which I would say is the top end for most heated products like straighteners and curling wands. After I have washed my hair I spray this all over while it is still damp then comb it through. I will then dry it in my usual was then either leave it curly or straighten it.

What I love about this product is that you don't feel any product at all in your hair however it is still doing the work. When I have dried my hair its not irritated or looking greasy, you cant feel it in your hair at all. My hair is glossy and shiny and with having long hair I have never suffered with damaged ends. I do also find it helps with the styling of my hair, when I straighten it, it stays straight for days. When I leave it curly I have healthy curls with no frizz. It is one product I actually feel works and it is pretty inexpensive too. It is a holy grail product of mine and has been for many years and I don't tend on changing it any time soon. what are your favourite hair products?

Maybelline Black Gel Liner
MAC Teddy Eye Pencil
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara

I used the eyebrow cake out of the palette for my brows then set with gimme brow. I used the dark brown shade in the crease and the nude shade all over the lid. I then lined the eye with the gel liner ending it in a wing. I then applied mascara to the top lashes. For the under eyes I used the brown eye pencil along the lash line smudging it out with the dark brown eye shadow. I used the white pencil in the waterline then applied the roller lash mascara to the bottom lashes. I finished by applying false lashes, and using soft and gentle to highlight the inner corner of the eyes.

MAC Soar Lip Pencil
MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick
MAC Fleur de coral Lipstick

March Favourites!

Its time for another monthly favourites and I am really enjoying writing these posts I'm so glad I started them. I think they make me appreciate my makeup more and make me try new products and stick with them instead of forgetting about them. This month all my favourites are mainly products I have had in my collection for a while which I have re-discovered and there are also some random favourites too.

Chanel Soliel Tan De Chanel - This is such a beautiful cream bronzer, I have been using this a lot now the weather is getting brighter instead of powders. It looks really natural on the skin and its also nice for contouring with. It may be a little pricey however this will last you that long it is worth every penny

Maybelline Eye Studio Black Gel Liner - I have been obsessing over winged eyeliner lately and this is my favourite to use. Its really creamy and glides on so easily. The gel liner dries fast to so you don't smudge it, and it lasts all day.

MAC Prolongwear Concealer - I wasn't much for this product when I first brought it however now I know how to use it I have completely changed my mind. I use this for my under eyes using a small fluffy brush and it doesn't settle in lines plus it does not move all day. I have also been using this as a base for my eye shadow and it works amazingly well.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation - One of the most beautiful foundations I have ever tried, I did a review of this which you can read here. Its definitely permanent to my makeup draw now.

Benefit PoreFessional Primer - I have used this primer for years now, and while using this the past month I was trying to think of another primer I have used which I like as much, however I could not think of one. I have never tried another primer which I like as much at this, and it works really well on my skin. I don't particularly have to use a primer with my skin however I use this in my T-zone and it fills in any little pores I have leaving a nice even finish to my makeup.

MAC Soar Lip Pencil  - I now the hype has died down about this lip pencil now however there is no denying its a beautiful nude lip pencil which would suit anybody. Its a staple lip pencil in many peoples makeup bag now and I don't think it is just because of the famous kylie lips. Its a lovely shade and it stays in place for hours.

TV show The Musketeers - I was gutted when it was the end of the series last week. It was such an amazing programme and the story lines had me fixed to the TV. I am already excited for the next series.

So they are my March favourites, hope you like them and please share yours too!

My Brow Routine Using Benefit Cosmetics!

Hi everyone, today I wanted to share with you my brow routine. When it comes to my brows I am not too fussy with them as I prefer them to look very natural. I like the natural shape they are, so when it comes to maintaining them I only tweezer them. When I fill in my brows I like to keep the shape but darken them and fill in more sparse areas. Two products I like to use are from Benefit Cosmetics. Please bare with my on my pictures I had to take my before and after ones with my iPhone as my lighting in my makeup room isn't set up yet.

These are the Benefit Brow Zings which comes with a wax and powder and the brushes you will need and the Benefit Gimme Brow which will not only set your brows but contains fibres which cling on to the hairs giving them colour and thickness. I find these two together create lovely brows and they are so easy and quick to use.

a picture of benifit brow zings and benefit gimme brow.

Before.
As you can see in the before picture the hairs are quite fair and don't really help to emphasise the eyes. They look a little lost within the makeup. First I use the Benefit Brow Zings Powder (you can use the wax first if you like) with the angled brush. I start from the middle outwards following the underneath and the over the arch out to the tip then fill this area in. I keep adding little at a time to get the darkness I want and keeping a neat shape. I then with a very light hand move onto the inner section, stroking up with the hairs applying a small amount of product giving this part a more squared shape. I then go over the whole brow making sure it is all blended. You always was the lightest part of the brow to be the inner section going to the darkest at the tip.

Once we have defined the shape and darkened them I go over with the Benefit Gimme Brow, this is such an easy tool to use! I start again stroking through the outer section making sure the arch and tip are defined then use the excess through the inner part stroking the hairs upwards. This will not only keep the hairs facing the way you want then but also add thickness and more depth of colour to the brows. You can increase the thickness by stroking the hairs back and fourth.

After.

After
You can see from the after pictures what a massive difference it makes to the face. The whole face looks more defined, and it adds structure to the makeup. They still look very natural, however they really lift the face and open the eyes. They are really easy products to use and I love using them. I hope you liked this post.
