Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation - Review and Swatches!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation - Review and Swatches

Foundations are my most collected makeup product, I have draw full of a variety from tinted moisturisers to full coverage foundations in a range of different finishes. I think base products are the most important part of a makeup look and finding a great foundation is key. Debenhams are celebrating all things foundation this month and they have kindly sent me this one to try. This is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation and I have been putting this through its paces for the past month to give you a full review of my thoughts and tips on how to use and apply it.

Lets start with packaging, the 30ml bottle is pretty and sleek, it is plastic with metal detailing  and I like that it is see-through so you are able to see the shade of the foundation really clearly. Even though the bottle is plastic it feels very sturdy and also light weight, perfect for traveling around with. One main factor which gets two thumbs up from me is that it has a pump, which I think every foundation should have, it means less mess and gives you full control of how much product you use.

Choosing the right shade in a foundation is incredibly important, especially purchasing off the internet, and as there are 40, yes 40 shades to choose from Makeup For Ever and Debenhams have made it very easy for us to make our choice. First off the foundations are split into two under-tone categories, Y- yellow and R-red making it is easy do identify and narrow down which one you will need. Secondly on the Debenhams website these are broken down further into Light, Medium, Tan and Dark shades therefore you are left with only a handful of shades to pick from. I think this makes finding the right shade much more simple and less daunting giving you confidence when purchasing.

Onto the foundation itself, I am yellow under-toned so I picked Y255 which you can see in the swatch above and also blended out next to it. The formula is quite runny which I actually prefer with foundations, not only do I find these more comfortable and light weight, but they are easier to mix with other products such as a moisturiser or liquid illuminator as I like to do, especially this time of year. The Ultra HD is great for this, it is extremely blend-able and easy to work with.

Onto application, before I have applied any foundation I have a lot of redness which I like to even out, I do have a few beauty marks also which I like to hide however I don't mind the odd one showing trough to look more natural. I usually like to apply my foundations with my beauty blender however with the Ultra HD Foundation I had to go through a little trial and error! I found this foundation applies much better with a brush and being worked into the skin. I like to use a buffing brush to apply and buff the foundation in, then I will go over with my beauty blender to make sure it is all blended, this gave the most flawless finish.

Here I have applied two and a bit pumps of the foundation. I was really impressed with the coverage and finish, my skin felt and looked flawless. This is a light to medium coverage foundation which is said to look like skin which I totally agree with. The finish is not too matte however not too dewy, it is extremely natural looking and it covers all of my redness and imperfections I want it to. I was worried it may feel a little drying on my skin however it feels very light weight and comfortable, I don't feel like I am wearing anything at all. As I have very dry skin I do not set this with any powder as I like to keep the natural finish.

Make Up For Ever boasts about this foundation and its capabilities with not just HD but also 4K, it is meant to give you invisible coverage with a natural flawless finish invisible on camera and television. These are the key reasons why this foundation if so popular with professional makeup artists working on film and TV. I think it is great that now we can also experience professional products in our everyday makeup routines.  In the picture above I used the flash and got no flash back at all my skin looks so natural.

I wanted to show you the foundation in natural light as this is the main environment we are going to be wearing it. In the day light this foundation looks just like skin, I don't look caked in makeup however I have coverage, it is barely noticeable making this perfect for an everyday foundation.

As I don't set this with powder I was interested to see how this foundation wore. It does not become any dryer or oilier throughout the day, by night it has the exact same finish as when I had applied it in the morning. I also love that it does not move around during the day either, there are no patches which have worn off. It feels very comfortable when I wear this for a long time, I don't feel irritated like I have anything on my face at all, it is very weightless and any bronzers or blushes I apply over the top also wear very well.

This is such a versatile foundation, it is suitable for all skin types and I also feel it is perfect for any age too. If you are just starting out with makeup and want a very natural foundation, or more mature skinned and want coverage without the cakey look. Those of you which want that flawless coverage for nights out and photographs or just want a quality every day foundation for work which gives you beautiful skin, this is perfect for all of you. This will definitely be my go-to foundation over the summer time it has everything I look for in a foundation and, I have been so happy with the look and feel it gives to my skin.

Have you ever tried the Makeup Up Forever HD Foundation?
